In 2002, SASI a not-for-profit 501 (C3) rehabilitative services agency acquired The Original Kazoo Company and incorporated it into SASI’s employment program for people with disabilities.

The Original Kazoo Company came together in the 1910’s as the shared vision of a traveling salesman, tool-and-die maker, and owner of a metal forming plant to mass produce this fun easy-to-play instrument. After receiving a patent for the metal kazoo in 1923 the business surged throughout the early 20th century, and offered numerous unique designs. Today kazoos continue to be manufactured in the original factory where the company began. Original die presses, and a leather belt driven power transmission system make The Original Kazoo Company factory a working museum. Through partnership with the Kazoo Boutique Gift Shop visitors are given tours, and the opportunity to witness early American manufacturing in action.
